The UK's first EPLAN Certified Engineer

Efficient engineering is not only a question of computer-aided engineering software systems - it's also about the user. EPLAN believe that efficiency is largely determined by knowledge, practice and experience, and as a result offer an extensive range of training courses to complement its versatile range of software packages.

Productive design at a high level can be achieved today by those who can fully exploit the latest software. The scope of functions and the potential for efficiency from software has increased strongly in recent years, and the number of educational courses currently provided give EPLAN users the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills for the long term.

Vincent Ford, a design engineer at Westbury Control Systems Ltd, has recently completed an intensive training course with EPLAN and, after passing his final exams with an impressive 92.3 per cent score, he has become the UK's first EPLAN Certified Engineer.

Westbury Control Systems, who have been using EPLAN Electric P8 and EPLAN Pro Panel since 2008, design, manufacture and install integrated control system automation for OEM and end user clients across a broad spectrum of industries including aerospace, energy, food & beverage, marine, offshore, petrochemicals and automotive.

Over the years, Westbury has been able to significantly shorten the time it takes to deliver high-quality, efficient and reliable systems to both the market and to their clients. As the positive effects of all EPLAN projects began to be felt, Westbury began planning to fully immerse EPLAN into all areas of the business, and one of the ways they plan to continually improve on this success was to attend the EPLAN Certified Engineer course.

The newly launched EPLAN Certified Engineer training programme is a six month coordinated package of training units, practical phases and feedback discussions which turns EPLAN users into certified engineering experts.

The EPLAN Certified Engineer course provides users with knowledge to be highly proficient with the software and deploy built-in automation capabilities at an advanced level. The course also provides an in-depth insight into the latest IEC standards and standardisation.

Vincent Ford, newly certified EPLAN engineer at Westbury Control Systems explains: "After only a few hours on the course I realised that the way I had previously been using the software was simply inefficient and that there were other methods of getting things done in EPLAN. It was very useful for me to learn how to do things efficiently and follow the correct steps.

"The course was highly interactive and you could follow the instructor and learn in your own time. The training was well paced and the instructor couldn't have been more helpful. We also received after care and support which meant we could go back and ask questions, even whilst using EPLAN to work on company projects. We now find that an increasing number of customers specifically ask for designs in EPLAN so I am very pleased I can now offer them best in class service."
