Domino Printing Sciences is using PPMA 2008 to unveil an addition to its C-Series portfolio of secondary coding technologies. The new adjacent side coding system - the C6000AS plus - with the capability to print on two or three sides of a case simultaneously, is an exciting product that responds to market demands for more efficient use of both equipment and production floor space.
Mike Hurst, Product Director for Outer Case Coding at Domino Printing Sciences, explains that the ability to print simultaneously on more than one face is something that the food industry in particular has long been looking for, saying: "Business models in high-volume retailing and wholesaling of food mean that several different sets of coded information may be required for the various transactions in the supply chain.
"Until now, these demands could only be met by complex installations involving multiple coding stations and turntables that require a large amount of floorspace for end-of-line operations."
According to Domino, the C6000AS plus - with its patent-applied-for technology - is as easy to retrofit on existing lines as it is to install on new lines, making it accessible to all producers. With up to three coding operations synchronised via a single print head, users of the C6000AS plus can also benefit from easier set-up, faster production start-up and more efficient management of consumables.
The C6000AS plus belongs to Domino's enhanced C-Series plus range of online coding offerings for outer case coding (OCC), which, according to the company, offers double the print performance and double the speed of any competing product. The range addresses market demands for increased efficiency on high-speed lines - such as those in the food and beverage industry - while achieving a print resolution of 180dpi at up to 60m per minute.
Products in the range also boast a clearer and more intuitive user interface, high-speed communications and Ethernet connectivity for easier integration by both end users and OEMs, as well as one of the lowest OCC power consumption figures on the market.
Printing high-quality alphanumeric codes and graphics directly onto outer cases, C-Series plus coders contribute to increased overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), flexibility and profitability while meeting the compliance requirements of the whole supply chain.
