CAN in Automation to be at Embedded World 2007

CAN in Automation (CiA), a not-for-profit group, was founded in 1992 to support users and manufacturers of CAN devices. CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial communication system launched in 1986. Fifteen years later more than 1.5 billion CAN controller chips have been sold. For the first two years, the CiA office was a one-man show: Holger Zeltwanger, the initiator of the group, lead all its affairs. Now the international users' and manufacturers' group boasts more than 450 member companies and is staffed by twelve employees (including five engineers) plus two apprentices.

Edbro appoints Priden Engineering as South East distributor

Edbro is expanding its fast-growing waste management activities in the South East of England with the appointment of Priden Engineering as a main distributor for the Edbro lightweight Rolatiptm power hooklift systems and Rolatarp powered sheeting systems for waste collection vehicles.

IMS Research predicts growth markets for motion control

According to a new report from IMS Research, the worldwide market for motion control equipment experienced robust revenue growth in 2007, increasing by 11.9 per cent over 2006 levels. All regions and industry segments exhibited strong growth during the year, and IMS Research estimates that total worldwide revenues for the motion control products market were $9.9billion. The first two quarters of 2008 witnessed continued rapid growth; however, the second half of 2008 and early 2009 saw the start of a significant slowdown in many segments - but not all.

ELAU and PWR co-operate on robotic packaging machinery

In the past, robots were only used in the packaging process for end-of-line applications such as palletising. In the meantime, however, a whole new trend has arisen: the integration of robotics in primary and secondary packaging processes to achieve increased flexibility.

Petrofac awards Invensys second Foxboro project

Invensys has been awarded a project by Petrofac Facilities Management to enable migration of the ageing Emerson Fisher Provox system on the Kittiwake production platform in the central North Sea to Foxboro I/A Series process control systems. The project is due to be completed in 2007. Petrofac is an international provider of facilities solutions to the oil & gas production and processing industries with a diverse client portfolio including many of the world's leading integrated, independent and national oil & gas companies.

SKF strengthens seals business by acquiring Economos

SKF is strengthening its position as one of the world's major suppliers of high-performance industrial seals by acquiring Economos, the Austrian manufacturer of seals and engineered plastic components. The acquisition, of 100 per cent of the shares of Economos Austria GmbH from Salzer Holding GmbH, is worth over £45million on a cash and debt-free basis. It follows the recent purchase of a controlling interest in the North American seals company Macrotech Polyseal Inc.
