Alstom Power Control Systems to use B&R automation

B&R and Alstom Power Control Systems, which is located in Massy (Paris, France), have finalised an agreement for the use of B&R automation and control systems. The ten-year contract stipulates that Alstom will equip power plants with automation systems from B&R.

Alstom Power, a leader in power plant manufacturing, develops and manufactures gas, coal, water and wind power plants. Alstom also delivers components for nuclear power plants. About one-third of all power generation systems operated worldwide come from Alstom Power.

Christian Kervenec states: "The B&R X20 System together with the real-time Ethernet Powerlink protocol meets the high demands that we place in the sensitive areas of power generation. The integration of the B&R systems in our own Alspa P320 process control system was done quickly and efficiently. In this way, we have laid the foundation for a fruitful technological partnership in the power and automation industries with a high level of innovation."

Based on Powerlink X20 bus controllers, Alstom Power Control Systems has already developed a redundancy system that meets the high demands that power plants place on safety and availability.

With the X20 System, Alstom Power Control Systems uses what is claimed to be the smallest and most powerful I/O system on the market; 12 channels are integrated in only 12.5mm. As a result, the X20 System is said to offer 50 per cent more channels than conventional systems in the same amount of space.
