Adjustable bag gripper end-of-arm tool for robots

SAS Automation is introducing an adjustable bag gripper for a variety of bag handling applications. This is said to eliminate the need for costly custom tooling and it can be adjusted in minutes for different production runs using a simple handwheel. It is suitable for plastic, woven cloth and paper bags containing heavy products including grain, chemicals, dog food, minerals and plastic resins.

This innovative gripper uses stainless steel fingers for both strength and their ability to withstand harsh manufacturing environments. A decker mechanism is designed into the tool to facilitate an accurate bag drop once positioned over the pallet - which is crucial for tightly packed pallets. In less than 30 seconds the tool's bag width can be changed from 12 to 21 inches.

Product details are as follows:

  • Handles bag weights up to 50kg (110 lbs
  • Handles bag sizes from 12inches wide x 12inches long x 3inches tall to 21inches wide x 35inches long x 6inches tall
  • Gripper tool weight: 78kg (172 lbs)
  • Bearings are double-sealed for long life
  • Independent decking plates centre bags and provide accurate bag placement
  • Can be fitted with a servo drive to automatically adjust width 'on the fly' to accommodate mixed loads
  • Uses 5/8inch diameter solid stainless steel radius fingers for long-lasting durability
  • High-flow pneumatic valves provide a complete open/close cycle in less than 600 milliseconds
